Dogma of Otherness

The four major worldviews, according to Brin are Paranoia, Machismo, the East, and the Dogma of Otherness. Paranoia is represented by people under constant fear of pain and suffering. with no thought of personal freedom, people are ruled blindly by their leaders. Machismo relies heavily on the tradition of male superiority and women subordination. Idealizing the male's role in society; men are to take action in circumstances dealing with honor and revenge. The East worldview promotes nationalism. People are encouraged to do not what is best for themselves but what is best for their country or state. This worldview has been able to survive the longest with a reasonably peaceful society and small negative effects on it people. The Dogma of Otherness strives for diversity and innovation. I found it interesting how Brin was against calling the Dogma of Otherness the west, believing it was too "self-serving and tendentious". I think the Dogma of Otherness is one of the most powerful worldviews because people attempt to diversify and strive for innovation. As a whole, I enjoyed reading Brin's article because it was interesting and entertaining. H poses a very intriguing question when he remarks, "it's a war over whether diversity itself can and will be a paramount human value". How do you believe this war will end? What countries would best represent Paranoia, Machismo, the East and the Dogma of Otherness? Can you think of any other worldviews?
