Polyethnicity and National Unity.

This reading is about how trade and migration began in early history and how most areas of the world were made up of people from different ethnicities. Generally the more skilled people were the more likely they were to live in a foreign land particularly military people. This led to “a continual mix of alien populations in and around the civilized centers” which, in turn, created a polyethinic society. These population centers were susceptible to disease which led to the importation of labor. These various kingdoms then become the nations that we know today. Extreme nationalism then leads to wars.

It’s interesting how Japan was never successfully invaded and how their culture was preserved because of this. How the protestant religion reduced Latin as the primary language of the church thereby making religion readable and accessible to everyone. Lingua Franca was the universal language of business and today it has transformed into English.

This article was very exhaustive so I can think of any questions or points of discussions that could be made or at least I can’t see any.
